All about smartglasses

Discover new ways to interact with the world around you.

Intro

Smartglasses are the latest development in wearables that offer new, comfortable ways to work, learn, connect and relax. They offer the possibility to connect with music, podcasts and also with frends or artificial intelligence. They even offer a new way to learn about objects and other aspects in our environment.

With AR (display) glasses we enlarge our sight and possibilities to improve our productivity and ways to experience the world and this whilel keeping our telephone in our pockets. With the XR smartglass models we even can carry a wearable workplace and private theater with us, everywhere we go.

Different approaches

In short: smartglasses offer new ways of living happily.

We can distinct five types of glasses:

  1. Audio glasses
  2. Camera (AI) glasses
  3. Display (AR) glasses
  4. Spatial AR/XR (full color screen) glasses
  5. Combined glasses.

Maybe you miss VR in this list. VR headsets are a different category of devises that are not covered by smartglassess.eu

The main five types of smartglasses

Audio glasses

An audio glass is either a (sun)glass with a set of speakers or one with a also a set of microphone(s).
In this way the glass can connect us with a digital assistant, for example to support us in translating other languages or other dialogs.
Examples are the Bose ‘Frames’ or Amazon’s ‘Echo Frames’ (see picture)

Camera (AI) glasses

Camera or sometime called ‘AI glasses’ are audio glasses that are also equiped with a camera. In this way the glass is also able to shoot photo’s and video or describe details in your environment. Examples are the Meta glasses from Rayban or Okley

Display (AR) glasses

Display glasses are audio glasses, sometimes also equipped with a camera; but always equipped with the projection of uni- or multicolor visuals on a screen in one or (mostly) both lenses. This makes it possible to show maps, messages or other texts, while the surroundings are still visible. That’s why they are sometimes called ‘Augmented Reality’ glasses. Examples are Even Realities (see image), Rokid and Briliant Labs.

Spatial AR/XR (full color screen) glasses

The fourth type of smartglasses are those with full collor display in both lenses or projecten onto one large (ski goggle type) lens. This makes hese types of glasses perfect for gaming,. On top of that you carry a full color screen everywhere you go and you are, in opposite of VR, still able to see a little or great part of your direct surroundings.
Examples are the XREAL, VITURE and ReyNeo glasses (bron afbeelding: wigain.com).

Full service (combined) glasses

The last category is a (growing) group of smartglass models that offer sound, a camera, AI-assistance, for example for translations and object recognition. On top of that a full color display and extended operating system. For example Google’s Android XR platform, that makes it possible to use your glasses as your phone, for calling, messaging, making foto’s, translating AI assistance, pathfinding and more. On top of that you can wide the screen for watching Netflex, Youtube or for gaming.
Exemples are the INMO-Air3 and the ReaNeo Air3.
